Margaret K. Weiss, age 97 of Yankton and formerly of Howard, SD died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at her residence at Avera Majestic Bluffs. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 15, 2008 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard, SD with Rev. Michael Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Howard, SD. Visitations will be from 3-9 PM, Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in Yankton with a 7:00 PM rosary and video tribute followed by a 7:30 PM scripture service. Visitations will resume Saturday at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard from 9-10:30 AM with a 10:30 AM rosary.
Margaret Katherine Weiss was born October 27, 1910 in LeMars, Iowa to Nicholas and Mary (Turmes) Reisch, the oldest of 13 children. The family moved to Howard, SD in 1915 and she spent most of the next 74 years there. She worked for 2 years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mitchell and 2 years in Denver, Colorado. She married Louis J. Weiss on July 4, 1945 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard, SD. Two daughters DiAnn and Joyce were born to this union. Louis and Margaret farmed near Howard until 1973 and then lived in Howard until 1989 when they moved to Yankton. She had been a resident of Majestic Bluffs Assisted Living since January 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, DiAnn (Gary) Honomichl of Yankton, SD; grandson, Jay (Alisa) Honomichl of Fort Dodge, IA; granddaughters: Sara (John) Osborne of Yankton, SD and Megan Schaefer of Keller, TX; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Amos (Marjorie) Reisch, and sisters, Vivian Lynde and Leona (Leo) Feldhaus, all of Howard, SD; a sister-in-law, Eileen Reisch of LaVerne, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, daughter, Joyce, parents, three sisters and six brothers.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1305 West 18th Street, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57117 in memory of Margaret for her great granddaughter, Molly Deyalsingh.
