 Hallgerd Sorlien, age 90, of Viborg, SD Passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg, SD. Memorial services will be 1:30 PM, Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Viborg, with Rev. Dana Steinwand officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be approximately 4:00 PM, Monday afternoon at Our Saviors (West) Cemetery, Menno, SD. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of services.
She was born July 2, 1920 in Brumunddal, Norway to Christian and Olga Solberg. Hallgerd was married to Thorleif Sorlien on March 20, 1947; they had 2 sons Lars and Tor. The family immigrated to Menno SD in November, 1953 and then farmed in the Menno area until 1968. They lived in the Sioux Falls area until retirement in 1989 and have made their home in Viborg since then. Hallgerd was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Ove and Agge Solberg, her sister Signe Fossum and an infant son. Hallgerd will be missed by her husband Thorleif, sons, Lars (Barb) and Tor (Marion) her brother Johs, 4 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
