Cody Shutt, age 17, of Yankton, SD passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 31, 2009 at his home of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, January 4, 2010 at the First Assembly of God Church, Yankton, with Rev. Jeff Mantz officiating. Burial will be in the St. Agnes (Sigel) Catholic Cemetery, rural Utica, SD. Visitations will be 5 to 8 PM with a scripture prayer service at 7:30 PM at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, and then one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Matt Krenlacek, Dalton Krenlacek, Zack Sealy, James Meyer, Juan Angel, Heath Shutt, Erik Vernieu, and Tyler Vernieu.

Cody was born September 1, 1992 in Yankton, SD to Daniel and Lee (Fradenburgh) Shutt. As a kindergartner he moved with his family to Latham, NY where he attended Blue Creek and Forts Ferry School in Latham, NY. He moved back to Yankton and attended Middle School and was a Junior at Yankton High School at the time of his death. He was baptized at the Cornerstone Christian Church of Guilderland, NY. Cody loved to be with his friends and watching over his younger brother, Heath. His love of mechanics began at a young age where he would take apart bikes and he worked his way up to vehicles. He liked his loud music, stereo, and being with his friends. He loved driving, swimming, and was involved in karate and boy scouts in his earlier years. He enjoyed his trips to New Jersey and also with his Grandma and Grandpa Shutt in the summer on the farm where he learned to drive tractors, cars, and trucks. He loved working on cars and trucks with his Dad, Uncle Mike, and Grandpa Shutt. He worked at HyVee in Yankton and was involved with the youth programs at First Assembly of God Church of Yankton.

Cody's memory is cherished by his parents; Dan of Yankton and Lee of Cohoes, NY; his grandparents Art and Frances Shutt of Utica, SD and Barb Hamelin of Latham, NY; his brother Heath of Yankton, SD, Erik Vernieu and Tyler Vernieu both of Cohoes, NY; Uncle Mike Shutt of Utica, SD and Aunt Nancy Shutt of Phoenix, AZ, his four legged buddy "Rocky" and special extended family Aunt Mary Vernieu and Grandpa John. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Warren Fradenburgh.
