Dorothy M. Sherman, age 87, of Yankton, passed away Monday, February 11, 2008 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 14,2008 at the Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, SD with Rev. Dave Gunderson officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Michael Block, Jason Block, Corey Block, Riley Haberman, Chris Frick, Adam Frick, and Colton Wurtz.
Dorothy was born on October 5, 1920 to James "Jim" and Lydia (Bucholtz) Whatling in Yankton, SD. She enjoyed sewing for her family and making quilts. She was a janitor for Boomer's Lounge until she retired at 80 years old.
Her memory will always be cherished by her sons: Jerry (Grace) Huntley and Gary (Edna) Boom; her daughters: Sharon (John Thorton) Smith and Carol (Larry Noecker) Boom; grandsons: Michael Block, Jason Block, and Corey (Shannon) Block; granddaughters: Kim Smith, Brenda (Keith) Haberman, Jacki (Keith) Tramp, Traci Wurtz, and Tricia Bromley; 17 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bonnie Whatling, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James "Jim" and Lydia Whatling; brothers, Don Novak, James Whatling, and Raymond "Sonny" Whatling; sisters, Sylvia Krovoza and Doris Zanotti and a grandson, Kelly Huntley.
