Larry Dean Sejnoha, Sr., age 73 of Yankton, SD and formerly of Lake Andes, SD, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton.  Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating.  Military Rights by the Ernest Bowyer VFW Post 791, Yankton and SDARNG, Sioux Falls will take place immediately following the memorial service at the church.  A private family burial will take place later.  Visitations will be from 5-7 PM, Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.  Honorary Urn Bearers will be his grandsons, Rick and Dean Preston, Joseph Matuska, and his nephews, Marlin Jr., Shane, and Dustin Sejnoha.

Larry was born January 9, 1939 in Lake Andes, SD to Vince and Margaret (Mader) Sejnoha.  He married his high school sweetheart, Aves Rose Zachariasen on February 15, 1958.  In their 54 years together, they were blessed with 4 daughters and one son.

In 1955, Larry joined the South Dakota National Guard, and was called to active duty in October, 1961 during the Cuban Crisis.  One year later, he enlisted in the regular Army and military life began.  Of his 23 years in the regular Army, Larry and his family lived in many states and overseas, spending 2 years in Turkey, 2 years in Thailand and 8 years in Germany.  Retiring from the Army in 1984, Larry began a clock sales and repair business in Sierra Vista, AZ.  He closed the shop in 1995 and he and Aves began an RV dealership near Yankton with their youngest daughter and her husband.  Larry and Aves retired in 2000, traveling the United States in their 5th wheel for 2 1/2 years, then returning to Yankton to settle down.  Unable to be idle, Larry had a clock repair business in his garage until 2009.  In March of 2009, Larry suffered a major illness, as well as losing both of his brothers to cancer, Marlin in June and Ron in July 2009.  The past couple of years, he has enjoyed his dogs, family and friends at the Elks and VFW. 

His memory will be cherished by his wife, Aves of Yankton; 4 daughters:  Terri (Lynn) Behl of Parkston, SD, Peggy (Kerry) Johnson of Arizona, Tammy (Doug) Matuska of Yankton and Melanie (Roger) Higdon, of Florida; a son, Larry D. Sejnoha, Jr of Denver, CO; 11 grandchildren:  Christina, Amanda, Rick (Ashlee), and Dean Preston, Matthew and Brent Johnson, Joseph (Michelle) and Lori Matuska, Veronica (Ed) Capiak, Michael and Chandra Ewing, 5 great-grandchildren:  Selena, Evan, Shiloh, Mackenzie, and DeLaney,; lifelong friends, Tom Novotny and Virgil Bechen, as well as his Andes Central Senior Class; sisters-in-law, Jo Sejnoha of Yankton, SD and Karel Sejnoha of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces and nephews:  Dawn (Richard) List of Crofton, NE, Dina Anderson (Larry Wood) and Dani Sejnoha, both of Yankton, SD, Marlin Sejnoha, Jr., Stephanie Richter, Shane Sejnoha, Valerie Headlee, Dustin Sejnoha, and Amber Garry, all of Sioux Falls, SD

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Marlin and Ron Sejnoha.
