Gloria A. Schurman, age 68, of Yankton, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with Rev. Steve Weispfennig officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date. Visitations will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Gloria Schurman was born on November 28, 1942 to Edwin and Addie (Powers) Kapfenstein on the family farm in Delmont, SD. She attended Choteau Creek #4 country school in rural Delmont, SD. She graduated from Wagner High School and moved to Yankton. She began working at Sister James Nursing Home and Sacred Heart Hospital as a certified nursing assistant. On December 14, 1967, she married Larry Schurman in Sioux City, IA. She continued working at Sister James and was a dedicated employee for 38 years before retiring. She loved to go fishing, playing cards, and spent her life having a genuine heart for providing care to the elderly.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Larry, of Yankton, one daughter, Rebecca (Jayson) Feilmeier, of Honolulu, HI, three grandchildren: Kyle, Adrienne, and Sierra Feilmeier, all of Honolulu, HI, two sisters: Darlene (Cliff) Gullikson of Yankton, SD and Marilyn (Jim) Lynch of South Burlington, VT; one brother, Donald (Bernie) Kapfenstein, of Freeport, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Addie Kapfenstein, grandparents: Robert F. and Flora Powers, and John and Amelia Kapfenstein, and one brother, Gilbert Kapfenstein.
