Kenneth Paul Peterka, age 48, of Yankton, SD passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 20, 2011 at Aspen 2 of the Human Services Center, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with Rev. Ken Lulf officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery, Yankton, SD with military graveside rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791, Yankton, SD. Visitations will be 5 to 8 PM, Monday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD and then one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Kenneth was born in Sioux City, IA on July 11, 1962 to Ronald and Lois (Schutte) Peterka. He grew up and graduated from Yankton High School in 1981. He worked at the family Grocery store, Peterka's Market until he went into the United States Navy as a Sonar Tech. He also worked for Alcoa, Jake's Short Stop, Cleaning Co., Rudy's Truck Stop, Direct Buy Club and Telemarketing. He was trying to do a start up business called Peco Corp. His hobbies included bowling, baseball, football, golf, playing cards and pool, and being with hamm radio club. For health issues, he went into the Wakonda Heritage Manor until the time of his death on May 20, 2011. He lived in Jacksonville, FL from 2001-2003 to help with a family death.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Peterka, grandparents, a cousin and three uncles.

He is survived by his Mother, Lois Peterka and Sister, Renee Somers, both of Yankton, SD; Brother, Mark Peterka (Ade) of Jacksonville, FL; Nephew, Geoffrey Somers and Niece, Felicia Somers both of Yankton, SD; Uncle, Dana Peterka (Sally) of Rockwood, TN; Aunt, Carol Schutte of Hartford, SD; Cousins: Wendy Schutte of Flandreau, SD, Brett Schutte (Julie) of Mitchell, SD and other cousins and multiple friends he cherished.
