Frank A. Ogan, age 91, of Tyndall, SD, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Avera St. Michael's Hospital, Tyndall, SD. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Tyndall Presbyterian Church in Tyndall, SD with Rev. Lorney Van Gerpen officiating. Military Rites provided by Kortan-Hatwan American Legion Post #183, Tabor, SD. Burial will be at a later date in the Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitations will be from 2-6 PM, Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Tyndall. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Frank Andrew Ogan was born to Ernest and Mary (Sawyer) Ogan on October 31, 1919 in Palouse, Washington. Frank attended school in Palouse, WA. He joined the United States Navy on October 23, 1940 and was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He spent four years (to the day) on a repair ship, U.S.S. Dobbin. He was discharged from the Navy on December 16, 1946.
Frank married Esther Sutera on December 16, 1949 in the First Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, CA. Frank worked in an Auto Body shop until 1980. He then worked for State Farm Insurance for 6 1/2 years. Frank and Esther live in La Crescenta, CA for over 48 years. They moved to Santa Maria, CA and then in 2002, they moved to Tyndall, SD. Frank and Esther loved to camp and he loved to fish.
His memory will be cherished by his nieces and nephews; his in-laws: Eugene and Melva Sutera, Mabel Winningham, Ruth Pinkley, Florence Sutera, Shirley Sutera, Dan and Helen Sutera and special friend, Helen Hovorka.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Esther in 2004, his daughter, Sara, at the age of 33, his Father, Ernest, Mother, Mary, three brothers: Lawrence, Kenneth, Jack and a sister, Grace.
