 Carol J. Nielsen, age 66 of Yankton passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at her residence. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the Kostel Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rod Veldhuisen officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be in the Mission Hill Cemetery in Mission Hill, SD immediately following the service. Visitations will be from 7-9 PM, Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Danny Schroeder, Butch Heine, Dave Schmidt, Ron Zimmerman, Jr., Laddie Novak, Jr., and JR Hoefs.
Carol was born on May 10, 1941 to Levi and Wilda (Logan) Zimmerman in Aten, Nebraska. She attended grade school in Aten and high school in Crofton, NE. Carol worked for many years at Jensen's Scrap Metal in the office and later started her daycare and continued with that until the time of her death. Her daycare kids considered her "Gramma Carol" and in her heart, they were "Her" Grandkids. It is certain that she will be greatly missed by these little ones. Carol married Jim Nielsen in June 1984, Jim was the love of her life and she was his. They enjoyed all the precious time that they shared with their children and grandchildren. Above all, Carol's family was her most important accomplishment in her life. Jim passed away on January 24, 2007.
Grateful to have shared in her life are her sons: Paul (Kelly) Sangster of Yankton, SD, Scot (Shelly) Sangster of Yankton, SD, Jason (Karen) Nielsen of Sioux Falls, SD, and Juston (Katie) Sangster of Sioux Falls, SD; her daughter, Tammy (Jack) Smith of Yankton, SD; as well as her grandchildren: Jacquelyn, Derek, Jessica, Nicole, Zach, Nathan, and Levi; her brothers: Dick (Evelyn) Zimmerman of Irene, SD, Jim Zimmerman of Oregon, Ronald (Linda) Zimmerman of Yankton, SD, Steven (Lorraine) Zimmerman of Yankton, SD, David (Jan) Zimmerman of Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry (Kathy) Zimmerman of Mission Hill, SD, and Daryl (Angie) Zimmerman of Lincoln, NE; her sisters: Mary (Laddie) Novak of Utica, SD, Lucy (Stanley) Hoefs of Yankton, SD, Joan (Bob) Heick of Crofton, NE, and Barb (Clyde) Yosten of Norfolk, NE, and many nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim, a son, a grandson, and a brother.
