Edward "Ed" Nebola, age 77, of Yankton, SD passed away early Saturday, May 07, 2011 at Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the 1st United Methodist Church, Yankton, with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Colome City Cemetery, Colome, SD at approximately 3:30 PM Tuesday afternoon. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with the family present at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are Joshua Hilfiker, Nathan Hilfiker, Adam Flick, Ashley Cotton, Jeffrey Cotton, Jr., and Edward Cotton. Honorary Pallbearers is the Antique Auto Association.
Ed was born on January 10, 1934 to Frank A. and Helen E. (Tarr) Nebola in Colome, SD. Ed grew up on a farm north of Colome, SD; attended Gable School and was a graduate of Colome High School. He married Marlene Shippy on April 4, 1954 and started his working career with Fullerton Lumber Company on April 28, 1955. He retired from Fullerton Lumber in 1990 after 35 years with the company, decided to return to the building business in 1992, joining United Building Centers where he worked until 2009. He was a member of South Dakota Lumbermen's Association; St. John #1 Masonic lodge; 50 year member, BPOE #994, 50 year member and life member, Yankton Senior Citizens Center; life member, United Methodist Church; 50 year member, Yankton, SD; member of South Dakota National guard,1952-1960; member, Yankton Antique Auto Association, 1998-2011. His hobbies and interest included involvement in trade and community, civic organizations; card clubs and polka music/square dancing; antique car collecting; traveling; watching sports and attending family gatherings and events. He enjoyed being with people and loved being with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Yankton, SD; son, Kenneth Frank Nebola of Yankton, SD; daughters, Dorinda Lou (Joe) Zweck of Lonsdale, MN; Melinda Sue (Jeff) Cotton of Minnetrista, MN; sister, Francis J. (Frank) Hall of Golden, CO; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Shirley L. Briggs and Dorothy Nebola.
