Nadine R. Mickelson, age 76 of Yankton, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Memorial Services will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, Yankton with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Private family burial will take place. Visitations will be from 5-8 PM, Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Nadine Rosena was born on March 23, 1934 to Albert and Rosena (Williams) Edinger in Mitchell, SD. She graduated from Plankinton High School in 1952. She attended Dakota Wesleyan University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree for Education in 1956 and her Master's Degree from the University of South Dakota. On June 24, 1956, she was united in marriage to Ted Mickelson at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, SD. Upon coming to Yankton, Nadine was involved in the Jaycettes where she was a local Vice President and President and was also named State Jaycette. She sang in the church choir and was an active participant in many church functions. Nadine also spent many hours with her grandchildren making craft projects for family members and the church. For 22 years, Nadine worked as a teacher touching many young lives. After retiring from her teaching career, she became a State Lobbyist for AARP and was an avid reader. She accompanied Ted on numerous local, state, and national Elks functions. Nadine was a long time, faithful fan of the Yankton Bucks and Gazelles, and the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Those who will always cherish her memory are her husband, Ted Mickelson of Yankton, SD; two sons: Craig (Irene) Mickelson of Aberdeen, SD and Clark (Jeri) Mickelson of Mitchell, SD; a daughter, Shari (Gary) Webster of Lafayette, MN; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and a sister.
