Robert Meyer was born February 18, 1931 on a farm near Alpena, SD to Bertha and Jacob Meyer.
Bob graduated from Virgil High School in 1949. From that point he worked various jobs until he became employed with Myrl Clark Construction. While working for this company, he married his wife Burdette Hein. He continued to work for the construction company. His beautiful twin girls were born August 5, 1958, Laura Lee and Linda Sue. He was quickly outnumbered at home.
In 1968, Bob began working for Kohlberg-Pioneer in Yankton, SD. He was a talented welder and worked for Kolberg's for 33 years. Bob became a Quarter Century Club member at Kolberg-Pioneer for all his devoted years of service. Bob was also a member of the local Elks Chapter. He was an avid football fan, favorite teams being the Vikings and the Broncos.
Bob enjoyed stockcar racing as well as Nascar racing, spending countless hours both at Park Jefferson as well as in his Lazy-Boy watching Nascar. He was a proud sponsor of racing at Park Jefferson Speedway. He watched every Nascar race and especially favored Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. as well as Tony Stewart and Mark Martin. One thing everyone knew Bob for was his wonderful garden and beautifully kept yard. The grass was like carpet and the garden always produced. Bob really had the green thumb. He spent many hours snapping beans and digging up taters.
Bob loved to spend time with his family. He spent every holiday, every birthday celebrating with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. For his 80th birthday, he was escorted by his family in a limo to the casino for dinner and fun. He particularly also enjoyed the family dogs and they enjoyed his unselfish nature as well. He liked to share with them. He was also a great helper to the family. He helped on so many of the family's projects; he was an especially good painter. He will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. He always had a funny story about someone he'd seen or something from his childhood that could bring a smile to anyone's face.
Bob was not a church-going man, but he LIVED his church so to speak. He was generous to a fault.
Survivors include his loving wife Burdette, daughters Laura Bartunek and Linda (John) Lichter, two granddaughters, Melissa (Daniel) Graveland and Abigail Lichter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Irene Aisenbrey, a brother Elmer Meyer, a grandson Zachary Bartunek, and a son-in-law Michael Bartunek.
