Mabel Lubbers, age 84, of Yankton, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Avera Wakonda Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Wakonda, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with Rev. Rod Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will be in the Czech National Cemetery, rural Tyndall, SD. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements.
Mabel was born December 15, 1923 in Avon, South Dakota to Joseph and Emma (Rehurek) Obr. She grew up in the Avon area attending Lone Tree Country School. She graduated from Tyndall High School. She married Walter Lubers on October 14, 1951 in Avon, South Dakota. While living in Tyndall, SD she worked at Springfield College, Springfield, SD. In 1961, she and Walter moved to Huron, SD where she worked for the Federal Government and then later Northwestern Public Service retiring on December 31, 1988. Her husband, Walter, died January 8, 1984. In 1989, Mabel moved to Yankton, SD where she was an active member of Riverview Park Reformed Church. She was the past treasurer for both the Morning Glory Circle and the Reformed Church Women's Guild.
A sister-in-law Darlene Obr of Omaha, NE and many nieces and nephews survive Mabel. Her parents, husband, and one brother Joseph and two sisters Gladys and Dorothy preceded her in death.
