Walter G. Lock, age 68 of Yankton passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. There will be no formal services held at this time. Cremation has taken place. Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton is in charge of the arrangements.
Walter Gerald Lock was born on June 8, 1939 to Gerald and Anastasia (Baran) Lock in New Lyme, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Miami University in Oxford, OH in 1960. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1961-1963 when he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Margrit Koenig on October 3, 1970. His 30-year business career included positions with increasing responsibilities at Cleveland Overseas Corporation in Brussels, Belgium, LPM in Chicago, IL, Eaton Corporation in Cleveland, OH and Brussels, Belgium, and Holmes International in Chattanooga, TN. The last position, which brought him to Yankton, SD was as President at Portec, Construction Equipment Division from 1992-1995.
Those who will always cherish his memory are his wife, Margrit Lock of Yankton, SD; his son, Walter Andrew Lock of Dresden, Germany; his daughter, Carolyn (Tommy) Thompkins of Atlanta, GA; one grandson, Brock Connor Thompkins; a sister, Joan Hendersen of St. Pete's Beach, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Anastasia Lock, and grandparents, Arthur and Rose Lock and Walter and Anna Baran.
