Kelly Robert Krempges, age 41, of Yankton, SD, passed away Monday, April 14, 2008 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Monday, April 21, 2008 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton with the Rev. Ken Bain officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD. Visitation will be Sunday, April 20th from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a rosary at 3 pm followed by a scripture service at 3:30 pm. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be John Krempges, Josh Krempges, Casey Krempges, Jeb Davis, Kyle Krempges, Kory Krempges, Keith Krempges.
Kelly was born on April 25, 1966 in Dell Rapids, SD, the son of Edward and Phillis (Arionus) Krempges. He grew up in Dell Rapids where he attended special education classes until he graduated in 1987. He made many friends in the community. From the age of eight, Kelly participated in Special Olympics. He was selected to represent South Dakota in 1987 when the International Special Olympics were held at Notre Dame, IN. He won a fourth place ribbon in bowling there. Other events he participated in through the years include softball, basketball, cross country skiing, and track and field. He was athletic booster of the year in Dell Rapids in 1987. After graduating, Kelly and his parents moved to Yankton, SD so he could attend YAATC. He worked there doing various jobs for 21 years. Kelly was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church where he did volunteer work. He was a member of ARC. Kelly collected pop tabs for the VFW. The proceeds from the pop tabs help support the Make A Wish Foundation. Kelly was assistant coach for various youth athletics teams in Yankton. Kelly attended ERTH religious classes for many years. He worked delivering the local MV Shopper for a few years.
Kelly made friends wherever he went. He lived in a group home in Yankton for four years and recently was a resident of Avera Sister James Care Center where he loved attending Mass and playing bingo. He spent time every day writing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Edward and Phillis Krempges of Yankton, SD; his sisters: Jean Ann (Doug) Feuerhelm of Jefferson, IN, Kathy (Danny) Davis of Trent, SD, and Kristie Theesfeld of Sioux Falls, SD; his brothers: Daniel (Moe) of Curlew, WA, Craig of Dell Rapids, SD, Bernie (Julie) of Ihlen, MN, and Denis of Sioux Falls, SD; foster sister, Angie Melti and many nieces and nephews and all those whose hearts he touched.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John, brother-in-law, Joe Theesfeld, and sisters-in-law, Sherry Daily and Penny Krempges.
