Merina C. Kollars, age 93 of Yankton, SD and formally of Menominee, NE, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 4, 2011 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, NE with Rev. David Fulton officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose Cemetery, Crofton, NE. A luncheon will be held at the City Auditorium immediately following the committal. Visitations will begin at 5:30 PM Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton with a 7:00 PM Rosary and a 7:30 PM Scripture Service. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Greg McQuay, Troy Merkel, Brian Kollars, Steve Tramp, David Kollars, and Clint Pinkelman.
Merina was born on October 5, 1917 in Menominee, NE to Anton and Julia (Biernbaum) Buschelman . She married Donald Kollars on May 27, 1936 in Menominee, NE and had 6 children; Del Rae, Judy, Larry, Norma, Jerry, and Mary. They farmed in Nebraska and Missouri and retired on their farm by Crofton, NE. They moved to Yankton, SD in 1982. Merina was a member of the Christian Mothers and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed embroidery, sewing, playing cards and baking for her family.
She is survived by her children: Larry and Linda Kollars of Yankton, SD; Norma and Roger Tramp of Yankton, SD; Jerry and Mikie Kollars of Crofton, NE; Mary and Rick Pinkelman of Bow Valley, NE; 23 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; 2 sons-in-law: Larry McQuay of Wausa, NE and Charles Merkel of Omaha, NE and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughters, Del Rae McQuay and Judy Merkel; brothers, Clarence and Norman Buschelman and 2 adopted sisters: Betty McCollum and Inez Payne.
