Esther M. Knodel, age 89, of Yankton, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with Rev. Steve Weisphennig officiating. Burial will be in Yankton Cemetery. Visitations will be 7-9 PM, Friday, October 2, 2009 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Joshua Mahacek, Darin Williams, Mark Johnson, Steve Johnson, Todd Knodel, Tim Knodel, Mike Knodel, and Matt Knodel.

Esther was born September 26, 1920 on the family farm in rural Irene, SD. She grew up in the Utica area and attended Fishbeck School Utica, Utica High School, Utica, SD and graduated from Yankton High School, Yankton, SD. She also attended Collins Business School in Yankton, SD. Her occupations ranged from Clothes Presser, Treasurer, Credit Manager, Bookkeeper, Homemaker, and at last an elderly care taker. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Platte, SD; Girl Scout Leader and St. John's Lutheran Church, Yankton, SD.

Survived by Children, Vern Machacek and wife Helen of Rapid City, SD, Patricia Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD, Judy Zikmund and husband David, Omaha, NE, Linda Williams and husband Roger of Layton, UT, Tom Machacek and wife Sherri of Lincoln, NE; and one sister Virginia Dvoracek of Yankton, SD. 22 Grandchildren and 31 Great Grandchildren. Step-Children; Glenn Knodel and wife Kay of Yankton, SD, Bill Knodel of Wisconsin Dells, WI, Donna Marcotte and husband Bill of Irene, SD. She preceded in death by Husbands, Richard Machacek & Rueben Knodel, Son, Charles Machacek , one Brother, Vernon White, and one step Son Jim Knodel.
