Roger B. Klimisch, age 89 of Utica died
on Friday, December 28, 2007 at Avera Sacred Heart
Hospital in Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 2, 2007
at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton, SD. Burial
with military rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791
of Yankton will be at approximately 1:30 PM
at the St. Agnes (Sigel) Cemetery in rural Utica, SD.
Visitations will be from 5-9 PM, Tuesday, January 1,
2007 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in
Yankton, SD with a 7:00 PM rosary followed by a 7:30
PM scripture service. Visitations will resume one
hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers
will be Jason Klimisch, Aaron Klimisch, Eric Young,
Jesse Ewing, Jared Young, Nicholas McDonnell, Andy
McDonnell, and Mike Merritt. Honorary pallbearers
will be all of his grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Roger Benedict was born March 10, 1918
to Anton and Martha (Block) Klimisch in Utica, SD.
From March 22, 1941 until October 15, 1945, he
served in WWII in the United States Army as a Staff
Sergeant specializing as a radio operator. He
performed duties with the 159th Infantry stationed
on Attu Island, Alaska. Roger operated, maintained,
and repaired a transmitting and receiving tactical
field radio unit. He transmitted and received
International Morse Code at over 20 words per minute.
Roger returned home to farm along the James River
until he retired. On October 26, 1948, he was united
in marriage to Delores Cwach at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Yankton, SD. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic
Church (Sigel), the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791 in
Yankton, and surveyed land for the ASC Office. He
enjoyed the outdoors and developed a love for trapping
and fishing as a boy. He played fast pitch softball
with the State Lake area men's team and helped coach
the Sigel youth softball team.
Those who will cherish his memory are
his wife, Delores Klimisch of Utica, SD; his sons:
John (Jenny) Klimisch of Albuquerque, NM, James
Klimisch and Steve Klimisch, both of Utica, SD, Greg
Klimisch of Wichita, KS, and Tom (Tammy) of Omaha,
NE; his daughters: Joan (Jeff) Young of Kennewick,
WA, Mary Jo (Steven) Ewing of Antioch, CA, and Kathy
(Roy) McDonnell of Albuquerque, NM; sisters: Sister
Jane Klimisch and Sister Jeanette Klimisch, both of
Yankton, SD, 16 grandchildren, 4 great
grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Those who preceded Roger in death are
his parents, sisters: Evelyn Frick, Susan Kingsley,
Josephine Huber, and brothers: Isadore and Martin
Klimisch.
