 Dean D. Huchtmeier, age 72, of Yankton, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be approximately 1:00 PM in Beaver Creek Cemetery, rural Crofton, NE. Visitation will be 5-8 PM, Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton. A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM followed by a prayer service at 7:30 PM. Pallbearers will be Willard Schmidt, David Kuehler, Steve Kuehler, Paul Jensen, Tom Bruder and Kent Folkers.
Dean Daniel was born on July 12, 1937 to Herman and Francis (Buschkamp) Huchtmeier in Crofton, NE. He attended East Blybille School in Crofton before going on to farm in the Crofton area for 20 years. He married Cathleen L. Becker on April 7, 1959 at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Helena, NE. They raised seven children: Dan and wife JoAnn Huchtmeier of Tyndall, SD, Corinne Huchtmeier of Yankton, Dale and wife Alecia Huchtmeier of Dallas, TX, Diane and husband Phil Gillespie of Oldsmar, FL, Gary and wife Kris Huchtmeier of Yankton, Jim and wife Michele Huchtmeier of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary and husband Jasen Clark of Yankton. Dean owned and operated Deans Cab Company in Yankton for 25 years and also was an auctioneer. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus.
Dean is survived by his wife Cathy of Yankton, seven children, nine grandchildren, sister Lois Folkers of Crofton, NE and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Francis Huchtmeier and his sister, Betty Kuehler.
