Richard Hoebelheinrich, age 71, of Yankton, passed away after a battle with cancer on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:30 pm Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories, Yankton, with Military Graveside Rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791 and the SDARNG. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Thursday, at Riverview Reformed Church, 1700 Burleigh Street, Yankton, with a rosary and scripture service at 7:00 PM with Rev. Rod Veldhuizen and Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Terry Rasmussen, Bruce Pick, Joel Dendinger, Randy Schmidt, Tim Foxhoven, and Jeff Kurtz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cordell Rasmussen, Cliff and Donna Madson, Chad and Kris Madson, Bob and Mary Bruening, and Frances Madson.
Richard was born on Jan. 17, 1940 to Herman and Rosann (Suing) Hoebelheinrich near St. Helena, NE. Richard was raised on a farm near St. Helena.
Richard attended grade school and high school at St. Helena. He worked for several farmers and for his brother-in-law Ted Pick. In Oct. of 1963, he was drafted into the US Army. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany and guarded the Berlin Wall. He was honorably discharged in Oct. 1965.
Richard married Dorothea Koerner on April 25, 1969. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2009.
He worked at Cimpl Packing Company as a meat cutter from 1966 to 1991. He worked at the Human Services Center as a cook until retiring in Oct. of 2010.
He was a life member of the VFW. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved to garden and be outdoors, and he enjoyed attending the sporting events of his two sons.
In his earlier years, he loved to hunt and fish. Most of all, he loved his family-wife, sons, and daughter-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea of Yankton, sons, Paul of Yankton and Mark (Sara) of Ames, IA, sisters, Irma Pick of Canton, SD, Delores Foxhoven of Crofton, NE, Donna Schmidt of Menominee, NE, and Diane Rasmussen of Yankton, SD.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosann, father, Herman, sister, Anita Dendinger, and a brother who died in infancy.
