Adolph Hladky, age 102, of Yankton, SD died December 22, 2010 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Please join Adolph's family in a celebration of his life at a memorial service at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with Rev. Paul Opsahl officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Yankton Cemetery. The families will greet friends and relatives beginning at 12:30 PM Saturday afternoon at the funeral home. A lunch will be served in the fellowship room at the funeral home immediately following the committal services.
Adolph was born on February 11, 1908 to Joseph J. and Josephine (Kucera) Hladky on the family farm in Utica, SD. He married Adeline Mach on February 16, 1938 at the Congregational Church in Yankton, SD of which he was a member. He worked the family farm all of his life. He retired in September, 1993 when he and Adeline moved to Yankton. He served as School Treasurer for rural school Fairyview District #75 from 1939 until the rural schools closed in Yankton County in the 1970's.
He was a lifetime member of Yankton Moose Lodge since it originated in Yankton and also a lifetime member of WFLA Lodge. He loved fishing and hunting, as well as softball and baseball. He played with the Utica, Lesterville and Tabor teams. To quote Adolph, "I was one heck of a shortstop"!
Survivors include: Daughters, Leila Lee Ann (Ira) Harritt of Kansas City, MO and Gail (Stephen) Bride of Spring Hill, FL; grandchildren, Aimee Wick of St. Petersburg, FL and Stephen Schock Jr. of Vista, CA and great grandchild Addison Wick of St. Petersburg, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife Adeline in 2005; sisters, Helen Schramm and Emily Hillman; two brothers, Emil and Joseph Hladky; one niece and his parents.
