 JoAnne Harty, age 70, of Yankton, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. Funeral services will be 2:30 PM, Monday, September, 14, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton. Visitations will be 6-8 PM, Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a 7:00 PM rosary and 7:30 PM scripture service.
JoAnne was born to Frank J. and Stella (Kocer) Harty on December 20, 1938 in Omaha, NE. She graduated from Mount Marty High School in Yankton and worked at Conception Abby/Retreat in Conception, MO. She often spoke with groups of young people about anorexia and bulemia and how it could affect them. JoAnne also did beautiful embroidery work and she was a devoted fan of Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell.
JoAnne's memory will be cherished by her brothers: Jerome F. (Allene) Harty of Rochester, MN, Rex (Shirley) Harty of Menno, SD, Kenneth (Bernice) Harty of Yankton, SD and LeRoy (Elaine) Harty of Yankton, SD; aunts: Irene Joyce of Rochester, MN and Genevieve Engle of Bertrand, NE and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and niece, Charlotte (Harty) Bartel.
