Elverna A. Hart, age 93 of Sioux Falls and formerly of Yankton passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at South Ridge Healthcare in Sioux Falls, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a Scripture service at 7:30 PM. Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus: John Hughes, John Hiltner, Wes Cimpl, Paul Rehfuss, Dennis O'Rourke, and Darold Loecker. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Catholic Daughters.

Elverna was born December 26, 1917 at Alvord, IA to Ross and Mary (Kippley) Howen. She attended schools in Doon, IA and graduated from Doon High School. She moved to Yankton in 1940 and married Charles A. Hart at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on June 20, 1949. While in Yankton she worked in the office at Gurney's Seed and Nursery and as bookkeeper at McElwain's Grocery and Wholesale. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Catholic Daughters, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and a volunteer at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital.

Her memory is cherished by her son John (Patricia) Hart of Sioux Falls, SD; one granddaughter Kelsey of Sioux Falls, SD and one brother Kenneth Howen of Yankton, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an aunt Phay Howen.
