Dorothy Harnisch, age 80, of Menno passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, SD from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church, Menno with Rev. Leon Schulz officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy was born on September 12, 1930 to Reinhold and Bertha (Schulz) Aisenbrey in Menno, SD. Dorothy married Fredrick Harnisch on July 4, 1948 at Grace Lutheran Church in Menno. Dorothy was active in community affairs and politics. She helped co-author a 640 page centennial book called "Menno-The First 100 Years." She also helped renovate a 100 year old house-The Menno Heritage Museum. She served five years as county chairman of a state wide group call Safe Energy Alternatives. Dorothy also co-authored a book on the Harnisch Family History in 1985, which received an award from South Dakota State University.

Those who will cherish her memory are her husband, Fredrick of Menno, SD; only son, David and his wife Shirley Harnisch of Sioux Falls, SD; a granddaughter, Taryn Olson and her husband Josh of Sturgis, SD; sister-in-law, Darlene Aisenbrey of Menno, SD, sister-in-law, Lorine Pesky of Helena, MT, and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ellis Aisenbrey, sister and her husband, Marion and LeJeune Wildermuth, brother-in-law, Walt Pesky, sister-in-law, Alvera McGraw and niece, Debra Talmage.
