Elaine was born to Louis & Anna Margaret (Deurmier) Schulz on April 19, 1924 on the family homestead at Delmont, SD. Elaine was born 2nd in line of ten sisters. She attended school at Choteau Creek #9 in Charles Mix County through the 8th grade and graduated from Wagner High School and married the love of her life, Alvin Guthmiller, on December 29th, 1943. They were blessed with five children, Louis, Marcia, Rodney, Monica and Kevin.
Elaine will be remembered for her strong faith, her love of her family, especially the many babies she held in her arms throughout the years. Mom always had a smile on her face, many kisses and a warm embrace for her loved ones. She was always up for a visit, sharing stories, singing in church, doing word finds. She also loved playing pinochle with a very competitive spirit. Along with her husband Alvin, they raised their children on the family homestead and farmed the land until 1979 when they moved into Tripp. She was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Avon, SD where she served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Of the many positions Elaine held in her life, she was a teacher's aide, and was especially proud of her involvement in the Community Action Program (Head Start) in Wagner, SD. Elaine and Alvin moved to Yankton in 1998. After moving to Yankton she became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she enjoyed bible study groups and attending the Over 50 Fellowship Group. After retiring she and Alvin enjoyed traveling to see their children and attending their grandchildren's various activities.
Elaine is survived by her children, Marcia (Ron) Deyalsingh, Ardmore OK, Rodney (Ruby) Guthmiller, Lesterville SD, Kevin (Michelle) Guthmiller, Yankton SD, son-in-law Marty Johnson of Meckling, SD, 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
