Dale was born in Scottsbluff, NE on February 21, 1926 to Harold Alva and Florence Schatzley Green, Gering, NE. He was raised in Gering by his father after his mother died during the birth of his younger brother, Wayne. Just one week after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, 1943 - 1947, serving on four different ships from San Diego to the Aleutian Islands. After returning to Gering, he worked for Consumer's Public Power and the Bureau of Reclamation for five years. In 1952, the family moved to Fort Peck, MT where Dale entered a study and work program for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 1953 - 1956 in Pickstown, SD and moving to Yankton in 1956. In 1982, he retired from the Corps as Project Manager and moved to California to help a friend with the construction and start up of a new power plant on the Kings River, near Fresno, CA. After twelve years in California, Dale and Jacie moved back to the Black Hills of South Dakota, just west of Hot Springs. After twelve years of happy retirement there and with his Alzheimer's progressing, they moved back to Yankton in 1996 to be closer to their daughter and family. During Dale's lifetime, he was active in many civic and charitable organizations, including being a 55 year member of the UCC-Congregational Church, PTA, Boy Scouts, Masons, Shriners, a lifetime member of VFW post #791, BPOE, Rotary Club, American Cancer Society, and the Yankton Chamber of Commerce.
