Erin M. Geary, age 42, of Yankton, SD, died of cancer on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, January 29, 2010 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Paul Josten officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Yankton. Visitation will be 2-9 PM, Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a 7:00 PM rosary followed by a 7:30 PM scripture service. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Erin Marie Geary was born April 6th, 1967 in Vermillion, SD to John & Juanita (Sese) O'Gorman of Centerville, SD. She attended Centerville public school and graduated from high school in 1985. She attended Mount Marty College in Yankton and USD in Vermillion to attain her 2 bachelor's degrees in social work and psychology/sociology. She worked for many years as a social worker and case manager in Yankton both at Lewis & Clark Behavioral Health Services and for the SD Department of Social Services.
She gave birth to her first son, Joshua O'Gorman and worked hard to attain her college education. She married Brian Geary in 1993 in Yankton, SD. Brian brought a son, Brookes into the marriage and later they had two more son's Tanner & Cody. Brookes and his wife Becky would eventually have her two grandsons, continuing the streak of all boys in her life.
Erin had compassion and caring for all people especially the mentally ill. She worked for many years in the mental health field and was well loved by her coworkers and clients.
Erin is survived by: her husband, Brian Geary, Yankton, SD; sons: Joshua O'Gorman, Volin, SD; Brookes Geary, his wife Becky of Aberdeen, SD; Tanner Geary, and Cody Geary, both of Yankton, SD; Grandsons: Tommy & Jacob Geary, Aberdeen, SD; Parents: John & Juanita O'Gorman of Viborg, SD; Sisters: Kelly Jorgensen of Humboldt, SD and Leslie Brown and her husband Jim of Englewood, FL, and her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother in infancy and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
