Blanche M. Ekern, age 100, of Yankton, SD passed away on Friday, December 07, 2007 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitations will be from 7-9 PM, Monday, December 10, 2007 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7:30 PM rosary followed by an 8:00 PM scripture service. Pallbearers will be Gail Peterson, Mark Peterson, Steve Ekern, Tim Ekern, Brian Goeden, and Mark Dvoracek.

Blanche was born August 13, 1907 at Menominee, NE to John and Frances (Lockman) Baysinger. She grew up in the Crofton, NE area and attended country school through the eighth grade. She married Alfred Ekern September 12, 1927. Together they had made their home in Yankton, SD since 1950. She worked in the main kitchen at the Human Services Center for over 21 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, Yankton Moose Lodge, and the VFW Auxiliary, Yankton, SD.

Blanche's memory is cherished by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and daughters-in-law, Coreene Ekern and Polly Ekern Kniffen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her five children: Shirley Peterson, Audrey Ceck, Rolyn Ekern, Dick Ekern, and Joseph Ekern, two brothers, and six sisters.
