 Gertrude "Gertie" Edelman, age 93 of Yankton passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Spring Valley Lutheran Church, Viborg with Rev. Steven Unzicker officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Valley Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be from 2-6 PM, Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with the family present from 3-4 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Donald Zeeb, Douglas Zeeb, Jerry Zeeb, Rocky Zeeb, Bob Zeeb, and John Fillaus.
Gertrude was born February 2, 1918 on a farm southwest of Menno to Albert and Emma (Knodel) Zeeb. She was baptized April 3, 1918 at the Salem Reformed Church of Menno and confirmed June 26, 1932 by Rev. John Bodenman in Menno. She grew up in the Menno area and attended the Zeeb School. On February 27, 1940, she married Victor Edelman, to this union one son, Jerome was born. She worked as an aide at the Yankton Human Services Center for 22 years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and playing cards.
She is survived by her son, Jerome and his wife Susan of Menno, SD; a granddaughter, Julie and her husband, Brett Hartmann of Viborg, SD; a grandson, John Edelman of Viborg, SD; a sister, Leona Gall of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Elmer Zeeb and his wife, Verna of Menno, SD; sisters-in-law: LaVerna Zeeb of Sioux Falls, SD and Violet Redner of Arizona; brother-in-law, Melvin Edelman and his wife Eleanor of Rapid City, SD and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, her parents, seven brothers: Christ, Gideon (Pete), Ewald (Freddie), Eugene (Hank), Reinhold (Ronnie), Helmuth (Billy) and Ruben and a sister, Edna Fillaus.
