Gertrude "Gertie" Dolejsi, age 78, of Yankton, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Bob Lacey officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton. Visitations will be 5-8 PM, Monday, August 31, 2009 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a 6:45 PM Yankton Women of the Moose ceremony, 7:00 PM Rosary and 7:30 PM scripture service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gertie was born on March 31, 1931 in Yankton, SD to Otto and Mary (Wuestewald) Walz. She was baptized and confirmed in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. She attended Sacred Heart School and worked in the box factory before marrying Ray Dolejsi on November 7, 1950. From this marriage, Ray and Gertie were blessed with six children.
Gertie was a stay at home mom and also did day care for many of Yankton's children. She watched many of them grow up and become parents themselves.
She was an active member of the Yankton Women of the Moose, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxilary, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Gertie's memory will be cherished by her husband, Raymond; sons: Ken Dolejsi of Yankton, Dan (Vicki) Dolejsi of Yankton, Rich (Tammy) Dolejsi of Yankton and Tom Dolejsi of Yankton; daughters: Patricia Ehrlich and fiance Eric Jacobson of Hustiford, WI, and Karen Dolejsi and fiance Denny Ling of Yankton; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sisters: Pauline Nedved of Yankton, Rosine (Ben) Horacek of Yankton, and Mary Jane Gullikson of Yankton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 2 brothers-in-law, and a granddaughter.
