Helen Deuschle, age 97 of Yankton passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories. Visitations will be from 7-9 PM, Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, with a 7:30 PM prayer service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Helen Margorie was born on June 1, 1914 to Charlie and Della (Fastrup) Skov in Irene, SD. She was baptized on July 5, 1914 and confirmed on November 27, 1927 at the Turkey Valley Danish Ev. Lutheran Church in Yankton, County, SD. She graduated from Irene High School on the 27th day of May 1932.
On October 3, 1934, she was united in marriage to Delmar Deuschle in Mayfield, SD and two children were born, Ronald and Marilyn. Helen learned how to silk press in the dry cleaning industry in Sioux City, IA before moving to Yankton. She sought employment at Vallet Cleaners and also worked for George and Mike Means when the business was located on Walnut south of the post office. After working at Means, she went right along with the machinery to work for Harry Vogt's Cleaners for the next 24 years. Helen in her many years has pressed band uniforms, hundreds of afghans, sweaters and wedding dresses galore. After pressing fancy women's apparel and wedding gowns professionally for 34 years, Helen retired and started quilting in her home.
Those who will cherish her memory are her son, Ronald and Mary Lou Deuschle of Yankton, SD; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar on December 11, 1992, her daughter, Marilyn Geidl in 1991, parents, Chas and Della Skov, sisters: Elsie Jensen and Ida Halverson.
