Darrell Dean Bray, age 57, of Beresford, SD, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 28, 2010, after an 8 month battle with cancer, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Centerville, SD. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, February 1, 2010 at Beresford Baptist Church, Beresford, SD. Visitation will be 4-7 PM, Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Beresford Baptist Church with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be Thursday, February 4, 2010 in Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City, SD at 1:00 PM. Darrell was born on Palm Sunday, April 6, 1952 in Fort Collins, CO. When he was 18 months old, the family moved back home to Rapid City, SD. He grew up there where he attended Rapid City schools. He graduated from the new Stevens High School in May of 1970. It was the first graduating class of the new high school.

His first job was with a construction company building houses. From there, most of the rest of his working life was involved with building something. He became an accomplished finish carpenter.

Darrell married Janice Sejonha of Lake Andes, SD in July of 1972. The couple became parents of three sons, Richard , Dustin and Darrell, Jr.

The family lived and worked in several Eastern South Dakota towns, mainly Wagner, Ethan, Mitchell, and the last few years of his life in Beresford. While in Beresford, he became a devoted member of the Beresford Baptist Church where, in time, he became assistant pastor. He was especially involved in the church's "Set Free" program, a ministry for anyone suffering from an addiction or other spiritual problem.

Darrell is survived by four sons: Richard (T Jay) of Sioux Falls, SD, Dustin of Mitchell, SD, Darrell, Jr. (Nichole) stationed with the U.S. Army in Fairbanks, AK, and Skylar of Rapid City, SD. He is also survived by his parents, Richard and Gladys Bray of Rapid City, SD; one sister, Karen (Roger) Kierstead of Rapid City, SD; three brothers: David (Stacy) Bray of Excelsior, MN, Marklen (Katie) Bray of Rapid City, SD and Kevin (Elizabeth) Bray of Yankton; two grandsons: Miles and Ethan Bray of San Antonio, TX; four nieces, four nephews plus many parishioners and friends in Beresford.

He was preceded in death by both his paternal grandparents, Harry and Clara Bray and maternal grandparents, Mercie Powers and Charles Staigle.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Beresford Baptist Church, 207 N. 4th St, Beresford, SD 57004.
