Mary Alice Bohlmann, age 81, of Yankton, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM, Friday, July 3, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Bob Lacey officiating. Burial will be at St. Columba Parish Cemetery, (Mayfield) approximately 3:15 PM. Visitations will be 5 to 9 PM, Thursday, (today), with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a scripture service at 7:30 PM at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD. Mary was born November 5, 1927to Michael and Wilhelmina (Healy) McKenna Irene, SD at Mayfield, SD. She married Burnell Bohlmann on September 18, 1965.

Mary lived and worked on the family farm at Mayfield, SD for a large part of her life. She attended Business College in Yankton, SD and ventured out to California for a short period of time before returning to the farm. She enjoyed showing sheep around the region and shopping in Sioux City before she started a family in 1966.

Mary's farming operation included hogs, sheep, Holstein cows (all of whom had names), chickens, ducks and geese. She also had a love of all breeds of dogs.

Mary was a hard working, ambitious woman and dedicated mother. She was a care-giver not only for her children, but also for her father, aunts and uncle through their old age. Mary was strong willed and had an Irish temper, yet she had a soft heart. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and kindness to those who were often overlooked and forgotten. Mary moved to Yankton, SD in 1985.While there, she worked at a variety of jobs including Cecil's Bakery, Vaulkrings, a cleaning service, and for many years at the Yankton Area Adjustment Training Center (now Ability Building Services), while also providing childcare for her grandchildren and participating in the local N.A.M.I. (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) group.

Mary became a resident of the Avera Sister James Nursing Home in 2005. She was actively involved in the daily happenings at the facility and enjoyed family outings.

She was preceded in death by her husband Burnell, her parents, uncle and aunts. Grandparents Patrick and Alice McKenna and Thomas and Mary Healy.

Survivors: Son Patrick Bohlmann, Yankton, SD; Daughters' Beverly Aganovic, (Faruk) Solon, OH Alice Hight Viborg, SD; 6 grandchildren Lejla and Zachariah Aganovic Craig (wife Tara) and Laura Bohlman; Tim and Derek Hight; 1 great grandchild, Austin Bohlman.
