Vivian Bierle, age 95, of Yankton, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital, Scotland, SD. Funeral will be 10:00 AM, Monday, March 31, 2007, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Yankton, with Rev. David Gunderson officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery. Visitations will be 5 to 9 PM, Sunday, at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Randy Bierle, Darrin Bierle, Dean Bierle, Douglas Bierle, Terry Gravholt, and Chris Kerr. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Gregg, Warren Wagner, Mark Kocer, Larry Skorepa, Hubert Zimmerman, and David Parker.
Vivian was born July 9, 1912 to George and Mary (Kolda) Vanorney at Lesterville, SD. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school in the Lesterville area. She married Henry Bierle on September 24, 1929 at Martinus Lutheran Church, Lesterville, and they farmed near Lesterville until 1961 when they moved to Utica, SD. After retiring from farming, she began work at the Human Services Center, Yankton, where she worked for a number of years. She enjoyed many hobbies of which gardening and her plants were a favorite. Vivian spent many hours fishing, crocheting, sewing, baking and cooking. She loved playing cards with her family and friends, especially when she won. Vivian loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and visits from her many family and friends.
Vivian's memory is cherished by her two sons; Arnold (Naomi) of Yankton, SD and Richard (Judy) of Utica, SD; son-in-law Robert Gravholt of Lesterville, SD; one sister Evelyn Bierle of Lesterville, SD; sister-in-law Alice Vanorney of Scotland, SD, 15 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Shirley, granddaughter Deanne, brother Edwin Vanorney, and sister Ruby Bierle.
