 Richard H. "Dick" Andersen, age 65, of Hurley, SD, passed away Wednesday, April 02, 2008 at the Freeman Hospital Hospice, Freeman, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 5, 2008, at St. Boniface Catholic Church (Idlywilde), rural Freeman, SD. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitations will be 5 to 9 PM, Friday at St. Boniface Church (Idlywilde) with a rosary and scripture service beginning at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Ross Frederickson, Leland Andersen, Bill Andersen, Jim Andersen, John Andersen, and Jason Sherman.
Dick was born April 14, 1942 at Viborg, SD to Leslie and Grace (Ludens) Andersen. He grew up in the Viborg area and attended Viborg High School. He was a graduate of Salem St. Mary's High School. After high school he farmed near Viborg and did farm to market trucking with his father for about four years. He then moved to his present acreage near Turkey Ridge and engaged in over the road trucking for 40 years. He trucked for various companies, the latest being Crete Carriers located out of Lincoln, NE. After retiring from trucking, he worked part time for Hefty Seed, Freeman, SD.
He is survived by six sons; Chris (Linda) of Murdock, NE, Joe (Cara) of Freeman, SD, Keith (Lisa) of Freeman, SD, Jeremy of Yankton, SD, Josh (Shelly) of Freeman, SD and Mike (Emily) of Freeman, SD; one daughter Teresa Spader of Freeman, SD; his ex-wife Evelyn of Freeman, SD; 12 Grandchildren; one brother Duane of Viborg, SD; one sister Mary (Darrell) Frederickson of Viborg, SD; and one sister-in-law Linda Andersen of Viborg, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gary and sister Sr. Celine.
