John A. Ament, age 69, of Yankton, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the United Church of Christ (Congregational), Yankton, with Rev. Joe Schulte officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date. Visitations will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements. Honorary pallbearers will be Lucas, Jesse, and Benjamin Gustad, and Brittany, Austin, Autumn Ament.

John was born to Joseph and Mercedes (Picotte) Ament on September 5, 1938 in Wagner. He attended grade school and graduated from Marty Mission, Marty, SD in 1957. He served in the US Air Force and then four years in the National Guard and married Ardyth Ptak on February 16, 1963. He attended USD (Springfield) and graduated with a BSE degree and also graduated from USD Vermillion with a Masters Degree in guidance and counseling. John worked at Job Service for 18 years before his health forced him to retire.

His hobbies included hunting and fishing and spending time each year at the cabin in Minnesota with all the children and grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy.

His memory is cherished by his wife Ardyth of Yankton, SD; children: Elaine (Dean) Gustad of Volin, SD, David (Barb) Ament of Yankton, SD, and Steve Ament of Yankton, SD; 6 grandchildren; one brother Tom (Kathy) Ament of Rapid City, SD; four sisters, Frances (Dick) Hatfield of Black Hawk, SD, Grace Gorden of Soldotna, AK, Marcy (Bob) Cook of Casper, WY, and Jean Brunkhorst of Tampa, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
